New Bible Study-beginning August 18th, Parables: Revealing the Secrets of the Kingdom of God
Can you keep a secret? Shhh…don’t tell anybody. We are going to spend the next couple of months revealing the secrets of the Kingdom of God. You are going to get, right here, in this humble church on Main Street everything you need to know to live a richer, fuller life. And, this is just for you. You go to church. Everybody else is still in bed or off shopping or golfing. I am explaining the Secrets of the Kingdom of God to God’s people here at JPC–not them! It isn’t that we aren’t going to love people that won’t go to church. We will. But, this here, this isn’t for them. You and you alone deserve to hear these spiritual truths. And, if you pay close attention and put into practice what we talk about over the next few months, it will change your life. You will see God differently, you will understand reality differently, and you will experience life differently–better. The prophets and righteous people who lived before the time of Jesus desperately longed to hear these truths. They would have paid any amount of money for them. You are getting them for free. But, you have to keep this a secret. That’s why Jesus spoke in parables .. Here’s the thing: in one sense, because this is ultimate truth about the most important matter of life: God, it is meant for everybody. And, sure enough, everybody can understand and use these truths. A parable reveals God truths using simple illustrations from ordinary life. On the other hand, these truths are useless in the wrong hands–or rather, the wrong heart. If you don’t really care to hear these truths, you might as well be speaking another language. It’s similar to explaining algebra to a 2 year old. They can’t appreciate it. So, you may as well cloak the truth thereby guaranteeing that only the ones that really WANT to hear it, take the effort to understand it. Those with ears to hear, come join us!
